The Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Manipur (NIT Manipur) is committed to excellence in engineering education, research, and professional practice. Established in 2013 with the vision of producing highly competent civil engineers, the department plays a vital role in supporting infrastructure development in the state of Manipur and across India. Civil Engineering is fundamental to nation-building, encompassing the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, roads, water supply systems, and environmental facilities. The department strives to equip students with strong theoretical foundations, practical skills, and ethical values to address real-world challenges in a sustainable and socially responsible manner.

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Manipur.

Civil Engineering is one of the oldest and most versatile branches of engineering, playing a transformative role in nation-building through the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure systems. At NIT Manipur, our Department is committed to nurturing technically competent, ethically responsible, and socially sensitive engineers capable of addressing contemporary challenges in sustainable development, climate resilience, and smart infrastructure.

The Department offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes that integrate strong theoretical foundations with practical applications. Our curriculum is continuously updated to align with emerging trends such as sustainable construction practices, environmental engineering, disaster risk reduction, water resource management, geotechnical innovations, transportation systems, and advanced structural analysis.

Situated in the ecologically sensitive and climatically dynamic region of Northeast India, the Department actively engages in research addressing local and regional challenges including flood management, climate change adaptation, water security, solid waste management, and sustainable resource utilization. Through interdisciplinary collaborations, funded research projects, and industry partnerships, we strive to generate knowledge that contributes both to regional development and global sustainability goals.

Programs Offered

The Department offers admission to 4 years B.Tech. course with an intake of 30 students, 2 years M.Tech course in Environmental and Water Resource Engineering and PhD Programme.
