SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Bibhu Prasad Swain is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur, where he has served since October 1, 2018. He earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.

Dr. Swain has an extensive research portfolio, with over 135 publications in reputed international journals, 33 Scopus-indexed conference proceedings, 35 book chapters, and 9 edited volumes. He has successfully completed six sponsored research projects and supervised 17 Ph.D. scholars (including one thesis submitted) and 19 postgraduate students.

He has been awarded several prestigious international fellowships, including:

  • JSPS Fellowship at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan
  • NRF Fellowship at the University of Cape Town, South Africa
  • Brain Korea 21 Fellowship at Seoul National University, South Korea

At NIT Manipur, he has held key administrative roles, including Dean (Academic) (2018–2019), Head of the Department of Physics (2021–2022), and President of the Institute Innovation Cell (IIC) (2019–2020).

Dr. Swain is an active reviewer for over 85 international journals and serves in various editorial capacities:

  • Hard mechanical coatings (DLC, TiN, TiCN, SiCN, TiSiN, AlN)
  • 1D nanomaterials (Si NWs, SiC NWs, SiN NWs, ZnO NWs, GaP NWs, GaN NWs)
  • Amorphous & nanocrystalline semiconductors (a-Si:H, n-Si:H, a-SiC:H, a-SiN, a-CN)
  • Thin-film deposition techniques (APCVD, HWCVD, PVD, PECVD)
  • Energy applications such as supercapacitors and photovoltaic devices
